Final Set of 2013 MAAC Rowing Weekly Awards Announced

Men’s Varsity Four

In helping defend Marist’s President’s Cup title, the Varsity Four squad endured the closes race of the day, and still defeated Army by nearly four seconds, finishing in a time of 7:32.6. They were also more than 20 seconds ahead of MAAC opponent Iona (7:55.1). The boat consisted of Seaton Drebitko, Jacob Enright, Dan Nesfeder, Cameron Schuh and coxswain Chris Leonard.

Men’s Varsity Eight

For Jacksonville, David Waugh (coxswain), Scott Del Vecchio, Jared Low, Preston Weinard, Scott Waitley, Nathan Esterline, Jeremy Sobiech, Brian Cosmillo, and Chase Rowe came in fifth in the A final of the event edging out sixth place UNC by .30 of a second with a time of 6:01.40.

Men’s Second Varsity Eight

The Marist Second Varsity Eight boat cruised to a 22-second victory in its race, finishing in a time of 6:33.7 beating Army who crossed the finish line in 6:43.4. The Red Foxes’ squad consisted of Conor Wiggins, Matt Michaud, Doug Woolley, Chris Bissetta, Tyler Sawyer, Chris Lorenz, Billy Hawxhurst, Ben Smith and coxswain Emma Flynn.

Women’s Varsity Four

The Red Foxes’ Varsity Four race “A” boat continued Marist’s convincing win over Army and Iona in the President’s Cup by taking first place by a 20-second margin, finishing in a time of 9:23.1. The Marist boat consisted of coxswain Katherine Mackenzie, Kristin Wilson, Stephanie Moriarty, Theresa Filippini and Eleni Waskewicz.

 

Women’s Varsity Eight

The Canisius Varsity Eight finished the spring season undefeated against MAAC crews with a solid victory over MAAC affiliate Robert Morris at the Black Rock Cup along the Black Rock Canal on April 20. In the final race of the day, the Golden Griffins' Varsity Eight completed the sweep of Robert Morris to capture the Black Rock Cup. The Griffs finished the day with over a 25-second lead against the Colonials in the head-to-head race, posting a time of 7:57.95 to the Colonials' time of 8:23.69. The win gave the Varsity Eight its second over Robert Morris this year, including a win at the Knecht Cup. Through four spring races, the Griffs captured conference wins over Marist, Loyola and Jacksonville, while posting a pair of wins over both Fairfield and the Colonials. The Varsity Eight included sophomore Liz Reinwald, senior Monica Klenk, freshman Nora Kennon, senior Bridget Laszewski, junior Liz McKinney, junior Nancy Kennish, senior Stephanie SanFilipo, junior Lynna Paradiso and freshman coxswain Hannah Blum.

Women’s Second Varsity Eight

In the Second Varsity Eight race, the Marist “A” boat showed complete dominance as they won by more than a 30 second margin, finishing in 8:34.9. They were ahead of the Marist “B” boat  and more than a full minute ahead of MAAC opponent Iona. The “A” boat consisted of Brittany Morrissey, Kira Melendez, Harley Chase, Nora Culhane, Brenna Logue, Samantha Blau, Danielle Villa, Jennifer Flanagan and coxswain Erica Bogdan.
