Iona Men, Butler Women Lead After Round One

Lake Buena Vista, FL – The Iona men’s and Butler University women’s teams lead after the first day of the 2013 MAAC Golf Championships at Disney’s Palm Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

The Gaels posted a score of 287 to lead the way. Fairfield is currently in second with a 293 with Loyola in third at 297. Canisius is fourth (306) and Manhattan is fifth (310). Saint Peter’s is in sixth with 312, followed by Siena (322), Rider (327), and Niagara (329).

Iona senior Dylan Newman is the individual leader after 18 holes after posting a 68 (-4). Fairfield junior Steve Burak sits only one shot back in second place.

On the women’s side, Butler posted a score of 309 to lead by 18 strokes over Boston University (327). Siena College sits in third after posting a combined score of 331. The University of Hartford is in fourth (341) followed by Fairfield (349), Niagara (362) and the University at Albany (400).

Three sophomores are tied for first atop the women’s leaderboard with a score of 75 (+3) after 18 holes: Jenna Peters and Isabella Lambert from Butler University, and Kristyna Pavlickova from Boston University. The University of Hartford’s Sarah Sideranko, who finished second in the 2012 MAAC Championship, currently sits in fourth place after carding a 78 (+6).

Competition will resume tomorrow with the men teeing off at 7:30 a.m. from the tenth tee, followed by the women at 7:50 a.m. from the first tee.
