The Stags and the Red Foxes faced each other in game one of this week’s championship, with Marist earning a 3-1 victory over Fairfield.  Alyssa Zahka singled to left field in the top of the first inning to allow Maureen Duddy to score the first run of the day for Marist.  Fairfield then tied it up in the bottom of the first with Lauren Liseth, the 2013 MAAC Player of the Year, knocking a home run over the right field fence. Following an almost four-hour rain delay, Christina Lausch recorded her own home run, sailing the ball over the left field fence to put the Red Foxes ahead, 2-1, in the top of the second. In the top of the third, Zahka recorded another RBI single to allow Duddy to cross home plate for the final run scored of the day for Marist. Marist’s Emily Osterhaus earned the win, fanning seven batters on the day.  Fairfield’s Rae Ball gave up six hits while striking out seven.
