Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Top-seeded Canisius College will face third-seeded Marist College in the title game of the 2013 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday, May 5. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at Marist's Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field and can be seen live on MAAC.TV
Canisius advanced to its third straight MAAC title game and fourth overall with a 14-7 victory over fourth-seeded Siena College in the semifinals. Morgan Leonard scored a game-high five goals for the Griffs, while Meghan Cuddy recorded three goals on the day. Kayla Scully registered seven saves in goal for Canisius.
Marist reached the title game for the first time since 2010 and sixth overall with a 7-6 overtime win over second-seeded Marist College. Jamie Romano scored the eventual game-winning goal with just one second remaining in the first overtime period. Ashley Miller and Kirsten Viscount added two goals apiece for the Red Foxes. Ashley Casiano recorded a game-high 12 saves in goal for Marist.
Both programs have previously won the MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship twice in program history. Canisius is the two-time defending champion and was the runner-up in 2006. Marist won the league crown in 2008 and 2010, and was the runner-up in 2003, 2007 and 2009.
The winner of Sunday's contest earns the MAAC's automatic bid for the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship. The NCAA selection show will take place on May 5 at 9 p.m. on NCAA.com
