Siena & Detroit to Face Off in MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Final

Buffalo, NY – The third seeded Siena College Saints will face the fourth seeded University of Detroit Mercy Titans in the 2013 Men's Lacrosse Championship game on the campus of Canisius College at Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

The two schools last met in the 2011 championship game, also hosted at Canisius College where the Saints defeated the Titans 12-3. This is Siena’s fifth consecutive trip to the Championship Final game, winning two titles in 2009 and 2011.  Detroit’s last trip to the Championship Final was in 2011.

Siena finished the regular season with a record of 4-2 in MAAC play and 8-8 overall. The Saints defeated the second seeded Jacksonville University Dolphins 11-8 in the semifinal game. This marks John Svec’s second consecutive trip to the championship game in his two years as Head Coach of the Saints. The Saints will be led by 2013 All-MAAC First Team members Colin Clive and Conor Prunty.

Detroit, seeded fourth in the tournament, earned their spot in the Championship Final when they upset first seeded Marist College 7-6 in their semifinal match-up. The Titans hold a record of 3-3 in the MAAC and 4-9 overall. Detroit is seeking their first MAAC title in school history and will be led by 2013 MAAC Co-Long Stick Midfielder of the Year Jordan Houtby and All-MAAC First Team member Jamie Hebden.

The winner of the championship will receive the MAAC's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship.

The Championship Final will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 at Canisius College's Demske Field and can be seen live on ESPN3 and Time Warner Cable.
