Fairfield, Conn. - Fairfield University women’s lacrosse goalkeeper Katie Keenan (Wantagh, N.Y.) was named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-New England Second Team which was announced Monday afternoon.  It is the first regional honor for the senior and the program’s seventh second team selection since 2006 and the first since 2010.

“Katie has been a tremendous presence in goal for us the past four seasons and I couldn’t be happier for her,” said Stags head coach Mike Waldvogel. “She will be greatly missed upon her graduation next weekend, both as a player and a person.”

Keenan finished the 2013 season with a school record 7.51 goals-against average, nearly a full point beneath the mark (8.38) she set a season ago.  She made 87 saves in her 17 games and earned nine wins on the season. Through games of May 5, Keenan ranks sixth in the nation in GAA and 22nd in save percentage.

A four-year starter, Keenan leaves the program as the all-time wins leader with 47 victories.  She stopped 467 shots, third in program history, in 69 games played, all starts with the Stags.  Keenan was named First Team All-MAAC as a junior an Second Team All-MAAC her rookie season, and earned nine MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Awards.

Fairfield has had seven players earn IWLCA All-Region honors in the past since 2006, with Caitlin Young and Kristen Coleman last earning the accolade following the 2010 season.  Coleman earned the award in each of the three seasons she played at Fairfield.
