Matty Berman is a Sophomore Men's Soccer student-athlete from Marist College. He is one of four MAAC student-athletes who have been chosen to attend the 2013 NCAA National Career in Sports Forum held in Indianapolis, Ind. This is a blog written by Matty about his experience at the Forum.
After a second day at the NCAA Career in Sports Forum we gained a deeper appreciation for all that goes into running athletic departments successfully. Being a forum focused on informing us student athletes on the career paths available to us it was refreshing hearing about the numerous possibilities we could take before and after graduation. One of the most interesting aspects of all of the facilitator’s life stories was that no path was alike. Perhaps the beauty of pursuing a career in sports is uniqueness in each coach, administrator, advisor, or media director’s rise to the top of their field.

If I had to take something away from the day, it would be to take advantage of all opportunities no matter how minuscule they might appear at first, because you never know whom that might lead to into contact with to jumpstart your career.

After having our brains rattled with new ideas and thoughts of our own potential career paths all day, it was relieving to all of us when dinner at the NCAA Hall of Champions came. A chance to walk around downtown Indianapolis and explore the NCAA shrine to all sports and champions was just what was needed to recharge our batteries.

Tomorrow involves taking a look at our individual resumes and interviewing skills, so I am interested as to what tips I can pick up from real employers in the field
