Final Day at the NCAA Career in Sports Forum - By Matty Berman
MAAC Sports
Matty Berman is a Sophomore Men's Soccer student-athlete from Marist College. He is one of four MAAC student-athletes who have been chosen to attend the 2013 NCAA National Career in Sports Forum held in Indianapolis, Ind. This is a blog written by Matty about his experience at the Forum.
The forum came to a close yesterday, and it felt like I had been there for way over three and a half days. Aside from all of the discussions and meetings which I have elaborated on in previous entries, the people on the trip truly made it an amazing experience.
From time to time I felt like I was playing 6 degrees of separation with every other athlete, because each one of us seemed to know someone else who plays with a mutual friend. The interconnectedness of college sports is truly remarkable, spanning both the specific sport and region we live in. These connections and bonds we formed over the past weekend ended up digging deeper than the surface and I left Indianapolis with a whole new network of fellow student athletes I hope to stay in close contact with.
To conclude I would just like to thank the NCAA for granting us the opportunity to go through such a valuable weekend that could be a life changing event in many of our careers. It was an honor to be selected as part of such a small class of student athletes, and the chance to represent both Marist and the MAAC conference on a broader is something I do not take for granted.
In looking at how I got to this point I could not end this blog without thanking my Coach, Matt Viggiano, for bringing me into Marist to compete at such a great school, and my athletic academic advisor, Cammie Jones, for nominating me for the conference. I also greatly appreciate the chance to bring my experience to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s community and bring positive attention to the personal lives of the athletes in our conference.
Hope everyone enjoys their summer,
Matty Berman
