EDISON, NJ – Richard J. Ensor, Commissioner of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, will be a featured panelist when the NCAA Championships division puts on its Host Symposium on June 26-27 in Indianapolis, IN.

 “I’m pleased, and flattered, to have the opportunity to be able to share some of the knowledge we’ve gained through the years of hosting many of the NCAA’s outstanding championship events,” Ensor, who recently completed his 24th year as commissioner of the MAAC. “Through the years we have looked forward to our many opportunities to host when they avail themselves.”

Among the topics Ensor and his fellow panelists will address are what it takes to organize a successful bid, how to develop a community strategy, and what the NCAA is really looking for in a bid and a host. Fellow panelists include:

·         Charlyn “Charlie” Robert, Director of Athletics at Nichols College and an NCAA Committee member;

·         Susan Baughman, Senior Vice President of the Indiana Sports Corporation;

·         Larry Needle, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Sports Congress;

·         and Chris  Roseman, Vice President of the St. Louis Sports commission.

Ensor and the MAAC are well-versed in hosting NCAA Championship events. Last March (2013), the MAAC joined with league member Fairfield to co-host the sold-out Bridgeport Regional at the Webster Bank Arena in the NCAA’s Women’s Basketball Championship, and next March (2014), the MAAC will co-host the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament’s second and third rounds at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY, along with Canisius and Niagara.

Just last year, the MAAC co-hosted the NCAA Rowing Championships at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, NJ, along with Rider. The MAAC and Rider also joined forces to co-host the sold-out NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia in March, 2011. Among other championships, along with league members, the MAAC has served as a co-host of the 1995, 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds at the Times Union Center in Albany and the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, and the 2003 NCAA Men’s Basketball East Regional at the Albany, NY arena and the 2003 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four at the Buffalo venue.
