MAAC Sports
EDISON, NJ -- Whitney Swab has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner for New Media for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, it was announced today by Commissioner Richard J. Ensor, Esq.
“Whitney Swab has led the MAAC’s new media efforts on an interim basis since last October and I am pleased she will be serving as Assistant Commissioner for New Media moving forward into the new school year,” noted Ensor. “Whitney’s understanding of the new media operation and her past performance, creativity and energy were key elements in the decision to promote her to assistant commissioner.”
Most recently, Swab served as Interim Assistant Commissioner for External Relations since November, 2012. In addition to managing the New Media department, Swab worked to enhance MAAC brand awareness through the conference’s online video portal MAAC.TV, as well as through the league’s website (www.MAACSports.com) and at MAAC championships and events. Swab has been responsible for the further development of social media, communications and marketing strategies, and worked with administrators at MAAC institutions to execute MAAC marketing initiatives. Swab also oversaw all broadcasts of MAAC Championships and Awards Shows, and was responsible for organizing and scheduling the MAAC’s Preseason Basketball Shows, which were broadcast on ESPN3.
Swab joined the MAAC staff in October, 2008, as Director of Marketing, a position she held until June, 2011. As Director of Marketing, she managed fulfillment of corporate sponsorships, worked closely with ESPN networks in the coordination of MAAC broadcasts, developed and executed marketing plans to increase awareness of the MAAC and increase ticket sales, and created and designed marketing materials for MAAC Championships and other events to increase fan awareness and attendance.
Swab took over as Director of New Media/Broadcast and Marketing in June, 2011, where she spearheaded the MAAC’s social media efforts, including enhanced awareness through the use of Facebook and Twitter. She also oversaw 40 televised productions on ESPN2/ESPNU/ESPN3, and worked to increase MAAC and sponsor awareness throughout the league with various on-campus student activities.
“I expect Whitney to continue to grow the MAAC’s branding efforts with social media, MAAC.TV webstreaming on NeuLion, the expanded in-arena digital signage agreement with ANC Sports, and the league’s partnership with ESPN3 as the conference seeks to fully utilize all platforms to provide content for its member school, athletes, coaches and fans,” Ensor added.
Swab has also served in a variety of capacities in a number of NCAA Championship events co-hosted by the MAAC. She was Marketing and Merchandise Coordinator for the NCAA Rowing Championships in May, 2012 and was Marketing Coordinator, Team Registration Coordinator and Hotel Coordinator for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship in March, 2011.
The 27-year-old Swab is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, with a B.A. in Sport Management.
