POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – As a result of winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Pepsi Goodworks Challenge, Marist College has received a $1,000 donation, which will be made to the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.
The challenge took place in the form of community service events from the beginning of the 2012-13 academic year, and lasted until April 30, 2013. Volunteers for these events can consist of students, student-athletes, coaches, school faculty and administrators. A point system, which takes into account number of volunteers, hours worked and video submissions, was calculated to determine the winner.
Marist earned a total of 7,557.5 points to finish first by over 1,000 points, and completed a total of 71 events.
“We are very proud of our student-athletes' hard work this entire academic year and the level of support they have given to several community service projects in Poughkeepsie, all of which contributed to Marist winning the Pepsi Goodworks Challenge,” said Marist Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Enhancement Cammie Jones. “We are honored and excited to have the opportunity to make a donation to the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, an organization that we strongly support and has been adopted by several of our varsity teams and the Marist community.”
An official ceremony to highlight this achievement will take place at a Marist Athletics home event to be determined in the 2013-14 school year.
“Jaclyn is a current student and manager of the women's lacrosse team at Marist. Her relentless courage and determination has inspired our athletes and many across the country to give back to others and support those in need,” said Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator Elizabeth Donohue.
