SUSAN DEKALB TABBED AS NEW MONMOUTH WOMEN's GOLF COACH

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Marilyn McNeil has the announced the hiring of Susan DeKalb as the new head women’s golf coach.  DeKalb, who has over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, takes over for Sherri McDonald, who resigned to pursue other opportunities.

“We are very excited to welcome Susan DeKalb as the new head women’s golf coach,” commented McNeil.  “Susan brings a wealth of experience as a head coach at the collegiate level, but more importantly, a significant number of successful Garden State, Women’s Metropolitan, and USGA championships.  She understands competitive golf and has a love and passion for the game.  I know our student-athletes will gain immensely from her experience and dedication to the game and to Monmouth.”

“I am looking forward to being a part of the Monmouth Athletics family again,” stated DeKalb.  “I am excited to start working with the student-athletes and help them achieve their goals on and off the golf course.”

An avid golfer, DeKalb has enjoyed individual success on the course, winning three Garden State Women’s Golf Association Championships.  DeKalb added to her trophy case, earning the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association Match Play title as well as being named the organization’s Player of the Year.  She was added to the French-American Team on multiple occasions, and qualified for the United States Golf Association Senior Championships, advancing to the round of 16.

No stranger to West Long Branch, DeKalb lead the Monmouth women’s basketball program for 11 years, compiling 141 career wins.  The 1990-91 Northeast Conference Coach of the Year guided the Hawks to three different title games.  DeKalb ranks fourth in NEC History with 103 regular season league victories.

MU returns six athletes from last year’s squad which finished sixth at the NEC Championships.  DeKalb and the Hawks will help usher in a new era in Monmouth history when it beings competition this fall in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
