Edison, NJ – The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) named eight MAAC student-athletes to the 2012-2013 WGCA All-American Scholar Team this week. Butler University and Siena College each added four awardees to the All-American Scholar Team. A total of 644 women’s collegiate golfers from Divisions I, II and III were recognized with this prestigious honor.
The criteria for All-American Scholar status are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. Student-athletes must post a 3.50 cumulative grade point average or better on a 4.0 scale to be eligible.
Butler’s Isabella Lambert, Alexandra Arends, Julia Porter and Nicole Johnson were named to the All-American Scholar Team. The four golfers helped the Bulldogs a team title at the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship in Butler's first year in the league. That title, earned the Bulldogs a third straight trip to the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship.
Lambert, a biology major, was named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team for the second straight year. She earned the 2013 McLeod trophy after a first place finish at the 2013 MAAC Women’s Golf Championship. She was also named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
In addition Siena’s Megan Cahill, Cortney Tilley, Mary Fletcher and Katie Nelson received All-American Scholar status. Cahill, Fletcher and Nelson all were named WGCA All-American Scholars for a second consecutive season.
The Siena Women's Golf program was also recently recognized by the NCAA for a sixth straight season with a Public Recognition Award for posting an Academic Progress Rate (APR) in the top-10 percent of their sport across the membership. As a program, the women's golf team accrued a 3.56 cumulative GPA during the 2012-13 academic year marking the highest team GPA of any Siena Athletics team.
