Wooding Named To MAAC New Media Post

EDISON, NJ – John Wooding has been promoted to Director of New Media for Communications at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, it was announced today by Commissioner Richard J, Ensor, Esq.
“John Wooding brings a wealth of knowledge about intercollegiate athletics, particularly college hoops, to the position of Director of New Media,” noted Ensor. “His experience with the media’s needs and his ability to provide content to the expanding MAAC new media operations is a valuable asset to the conference and a compelling reason for the promotion to his new position.”
Wooding had previously served as Director of Special Projects with the MAAC, and was responsible for the development of “The MAAC Experience” exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA. He also served as executive producer of the “A Day In the Life” a 12-minute video showcasing basketball student-athletes from throughout the MAAC, and “Celebrating Hoops Success,” a seven minute video showcasing the MAAC’s 2013 Honor Roll inductees. Both videos are displayed as part of “The MAAC Experience” exhibit.
Wooding has also assisted on a number of the league’s championship efforts, including the 2011 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship in Philadelphia, and the 2012 NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, NJ, both co-hosted by the MAAC along with Rider University. Wooding has also assisted with the MAAC’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships and the Baseball Championship.
Prior to joining the MAAC staff, Wooding served as Associate Athletic Director, and Senior Associate Athletic Director, at Rutgers University for 12 years. He headed the Media Relations Office for eight years, before taking over administrative responsibilities in 2008, including the oversight of the Scarlet Knights’ Top 25 wrestling program. He was Tournament Director of the 2007 NCAA Division I East Regional Tournament at the Izod Center, and the 2009 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championships 1st/2nd Round at the Rutgers Athletic Center.
Wooding also served as Sports Information Director and Associate Athletic Director/Communications at Seton Hall University. He was the spokesperson for the Pirates’ 19-sport intercollegiate program, and the primary contact for the men’s basketball program which appeared in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 1991-94.
Wooding has experience in a conference setting, too, serving as Assistant Commissioner of the Atlantic 10 Conference (1986-90), where he oversaw the league’s public relations efforts, was the Tournament Director for a number of league championships, including the men’s basketball tournament, and was coordinator of the Atlantic 10 Conference’s syndicated Television Network.
Wooding, a native of New Brunswick, is a Rutgers University graduate, and currently resides in Metuchen.
