MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
ASHLEY SMALL, Fairfield
F, Jr., 5-5, Melville, N.Y./St. Anthony’s
Small scored a pair of game-winning tallies as the Stags captured the Fairfield Women’s Soccer Invitational with victories over American and Holy Cross. In the 1-0 win over American, Small scored what proved to be the game winning goal less than three minutes into the match. Small played a role in both goals on Sunday, as she was taken down inside the penalty box, which set up the tying PK in the 67th minute. She then scored the game winner on a header three minutes into overtime. Small was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts.
MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
EMMA PICHL, Fairfield
B, Jr., 5-7, New York, N.Y./Notre Dame
Pichl earned All-Tournament honors in the Fairfield Women’s Soccer Invitational, leading the Stags to two victories and the tourney championship. She helped the Stags post their first shutout in the opening round 1-0 win over American. In the championship game, Pichl anchored a defensive effort that did not allow a goal in play as Holy Cross scored its lone tally on a on a penalty kick. All told, Pichl played the entire 183:04 in the two matches, as Fairfield posted a 0.49 GAA for the weekend.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
ASHLEY DROZD, Saint Peter’s
Fr., F., 5-4, Calverton, N.Y./Riverhead
Drozd scored a pair of goals on the week, and helped Saint Peter’s to its first win of the season. The Peacocks scored a 2-0 triumph over VMI on Sunday, with Drozd providing what proved to be the game winner when she blasted a shot from 25 yards 21 minutes into the second half. She also scored the Peacocks’ goal in the loss to LIU Brooklyn .
