Monmouth Men's and Siena Women's Golf Teams Win ECAC Golf Championships

Centerville, Mass. The 2013 ECAC Division I Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships at Twisted Dune Golf Club in Egg Harbor, NJ marked the beginning of the first championship of the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s (ECAC) 75th Anniversary celebration. The two day event concluded this afternoon with Monmouth University capturing first place for the men while Siena College was crowned champion for the women.

Men’s Championship

Monmouth University continued its hot streak completing the ECAC Division I Golf Championship with a combined score of 623 defeating their opponents by at least 17 strokes or more.  Fairfield University finished with a score of 640, good enough for second place. Rider University was close behind finishing third at 645. Saint Francis (NY) placed fourth with a 659 while University of Massachusetts-Lowell finished fifth with a 679.

Monmouth University’s Brady Goodling completed his outing at Twisted Dune with a 148  (71 and 77) giving him the first place individual trophy. Rider University’s James Buttermark, only six strokes behind Goodling, placed second overall with a score of 154. Following close behind was Monmouth’s Kyle Deishler placing third with a combined score of 155. Fairfield University’s Richard Dowling ended his day with a 78 giving him a 156 total finishing fourth.

Women’s Championship

Siena College held on to first place receiving the ECAC Division I Women’s Golf Championship trophy shooting 638. The University at Albany finished second with a combined score of 655, while Fairfield University completed competition in third place with 673. Monmouth University (711) and The College of the Holy Cross (739) rounded out the field finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

The women were very evenly matched throughout the weekend, but it was senior Kylie Strijek that walked away with the individual champion award. Finishing her stellar weekend with a 73, giving her a total of 152, her personal best at Twisted Dune. Teammate Victoria Nguyen shot 157, five strokes shy of Striijek, giving her second place. The University at Albany’s Victoria Choi made a huge comeback in the second round scoring a 75 giving her a 159 total only two strokes above second place. Fellow teammate Sam Schuffenecker finished in fourth place with a score of 163.
