Higgins & Toussaint named Corvais ECAC Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week

Edison, N.J. –Rider University's Lamont Higgins and Monmouth University's Mariah Toussaint have been named Corvias ECAC Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week.

At the Army Four-Way Invite Rider's freshman Lamont Higgins won the 200 meters with a time of 22.34 seconds, besting 15 others in the field and placed second out of 12 competitors  in the 400 meters with a time of 49.66 seconds, qualifying for the IC4A in both events. With this strong performance Higgins helped lead the Rider men to a 2nd place team finish overall.

Mariah Toussaint had a career day on Saturday at the MU Blue and White Invitational, winning four events and claiming a national mark in the long jump. Toussaint started off the day with a long jump mark of 20 feet, eight inches which earned her both a ECAC qualifying mark, and the top indoor long jump mark in the nation. Her second first place finish was in the 200 meter dash, racing the course in 25.12 seconds, an ECAC mark and almost 2 full seconds ahead of second place finisher. Toussaint also took first in the 60 meter dash, besting 13 others in the field with a time of 7.73 seconds. Finally, the senior won the high jump, leaping five feet, three inches to top an eight-person field. All in all, Toussaint’s four victories helped secure the MU women first place win of the meet.

Toussaint's award for the women is shared with Thea LaFond  from the University of Maryland and Heather MacLean from UMass Amherst. While Higgins award for the men is shared with John Bleday  of Dartmouth College, Alexander Bowen of the University of Albany as well as Derrick Petett from the U.S. Naval Academy.

The 2013 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on Friday, February 21st at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in NYC.
