Martir, Samardzic, Quarantillo, & Tobias Take Home MAAC Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards

Edison, N.J. – Matthan-Matthew Martir of Rider University was named the MAAC men's swimmer of the week, while Matea Samardzic of Saint Peter’s earned the award on the women's side.  The MAAC divers of the week are the Golden Griff’s Eddie Quarantillo for the men and the Red Foxes Kimberly Tobias for the women.

Martir, a freshman, won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.44, the 100 yard freestyle in 47.29 and the 100 butterfly in 51.51. Martir also led off the winning 200 medley relay that was victorious with a time of 1:35.49 as Rider defeated Saint Peter's 180-107 this past weekend.

Matea Samardzic won three individual events and was a part of a winning relay to help Saint Peter’s end in a 147-all standstill against Rider on Saturday. The freshman dominated the backstroke, winning the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 58.17 and the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.70. Samardzic also won the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:10.86, and opened the meet by swimming the opening leg of the winning 200 medley relay finishing in 1:49.99.

The Griff’s junior diver Eddie Quarantillo, took first place on both boards for the fifth time this season in the Griffs’ win over Niagara on Saturday. Quarantillo opened on the 3-meter board, posting a score of 279.97. He then dove to a 282.90 in the 1-meter dive, taking first by more than 38 points.

In Marist’s 170-128 victory over Boston College, Tobias followed suit with her performances by claiming first place in the one meter dive with a score of 270.53, as well as the three meter dive with a score of 271.43. She compiled a total of 19 points for the Red Foxes.
