Two Saint Peter's Swimmers, along with Baker & Beers Take Home MAAC Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards

Edison, N.J. – Jonathan Gomez of Saint Peter’s was named the MAAC men's swimmer of the week, while Matea Samardzic, another Peacock, earned the award on the women's side.  The MAAC divers of the week are the Red Foxes Jacob Baker for the men and the Saints Hailey Beers for the women.

Gomez, a freshman, helped Saint Peter’s to a pair of MAAC victories this week against Manhattan and Iona after winning five individual events and two relays. The freshman won the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 1:56.71 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.70 while also swimming the opening leg of the winning 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.92 against Manhattan. Gomez then won the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.57, the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.76 and the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:45.31 before opening the winning 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.37.

Matea Samardzic won four individual events and one relay, while also finishing second in another relay to help the Peacocks to a pair of wins against MAAC competition over the weekend. The freshman won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.54 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.31 before opening the winning 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.35 to help Saint Peter’s sweep the swimming events against Manhattan on Friday. Samardzic then won the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.05 and the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.36. She opened the meet with the opening leg of the 200 medley relay that won with a time of 1:50.30 before closing the meet with a second place standing in the 200 free relay finishing in a time of 1:43.23 against the Gaels.

The Red Foxes junior diver Jacob Baker took first place on the three-meter board with a score of 296.63, while also taking third on the one-meter board scoring a 270.68. He posted 12 points for the Red Foxes in their 177-118 win over Seton Hall.

 In Siena’s two meets this weekend, sophomore Hailey Beerssaw action for the first time this season for the Saints and she did not disappoint the crowd. Beers swept the diving events on Friday night against Assumption College with final scores of 230.10 in the one-meter and 230.15 in the three-meter. Beers also competed and won the one-meter dive on Saturday against Saint Francis with a final score of 181.20. Beers has now won all three events she has participated in this season.
