Iona and Marist Remain Perfect in Women's Basketball League Play

EDISON, N.J. – The Iona College Gaels (11-2, 4-0 MAAC) won its fourth straight league game this past week after winning all three road contest against Canisius, Niagara, and Saint Peter’s and extending its winning streak to 10 games. Marist College (9-4, 3-0 MAAC) won its 33rd and 34th consecutive MAAC games against Canisius and Manhattan at home on the week and extended its current winning streak to 8 games.   

Fairfield University (8-5, 3-1 MAAC) sits in third place in the league standings after compiling a 2-1 record this past week. The Stags defeated Niagara at home on New Year’s Eve and in state rival Quinnipiac on Sunday at home.

Quinnipiac University (8-7, 3-2 MAAC) split its two contest last week and are in fourth place in the league standings. The Bobcats earned a home victory against Rider on Friday evening at the TD Bank Sport Center.

Tied for fifth in the league are the Rider University Broncs (6-7, 2-2 MAAC) and the Manhattan College Jaspers (3-10, 2-2 MAAC). Rider completed a 2-1 week with a road victory at Siena on Tuesday and a road win against Hour Glass rival Monmouth on Sunday. Manhattan registered one win on the week against Monmouth at Draddy Gymnasium before dropping its final two games to finish the week at 1-2.

Canisius College (5-9, 1-4 MAAC), Monmouth University (2-13, 1-3 MAAC), Niagara University (3-10, 1-3 MAAC), and Siena College (6-6, 1-2 MAAC) all picked up their first league victories this past week. Canisius defeated Saint Peter’s 48-47 at home on Sunday afternoon. Monmouth picked up a 62-57 victory at the MAC in overtime against Fairfield on Friday for its first ever MAAC win in school history. Niagara knocked off Saint Peter’s 78-46 on Friday at the Gallagher Center to earn its first league win of the season. Siena earned a road win at Manhattan 64-53 on Sunday to secure its first conference win.
