Kirui Earns MAAC Runner of the Week Award

Edison, N.J. - Iona College’s Gilbert Kirui was named the MAAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
In his Maroon & Gold debut, freshman Gilbert Kirui led the No. 13 ranked Iona College men's cross country team to a third place team finish at the 2014 Panorama Farms Virginia Invitational. Kirui finished second overall just 2.5 seconds behind the race winner from Auburn. He completed the 8k course with a time of 23:54.5. Iona finished seven points behind first place Virginia, the No. 13 ranked team in the most recent US Track and Field Cross Country Coaches association NCAA Division I National Coaches Poll. Furman, the No. 29 ranked team, was second with 51 points, three points ahead of the Gaels.
The 2014 MAAC Cross Country Championships will be held on Friday, October 31st at Holmdel Park, Holmdel N.J.
