Manhattan's McGuinness, Fairfield's Coffey and Theiller Announced as Volleyball Weekly Award Winners

Player of the Week

Malia McGuinness, Manhattan 

Sr., OH, 5-10, Kailua, Hawaii/Maryknoll School

McGuinness was dominant, as Manhattan swept a three-match home stand against Fairleigh Dickinson, Niagara and Canisius. She averaged 4.91 kills and 4.91 digs per set while hitting a combined .386 in the three victories. Against Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday night, McGuinness slammed a match-high 13 kills and made just two errors, hitting .524 in the 3-0 win. McGuinness then had a double-double in the four-set victory over Niagara on Saturday, posting 17 kills and 23 digs while hitting .333. She added three assists against Niagara. McGuinness saved her best performance for last, hitting .370 and matching a career-high with 23 kills to go along with 23 digs in the 3-1 victory over Canisius on Sunday.

Libero of the Week

Camille Coffey, Fairfield

Sr., L, 5-11, Sierra Madre, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy

Senior Camille Coffey made history this weekend by becoming the 14th Stag to reach the 1,000 dig plateau.  Coffey reached 21 digs in both matches and had just one reception error in 69 chances, good for a .986 percentage. In the win against previously unbeaten Rider, Coffey had 21 digs and also helped out the passing with four assists in both matches.

Rookie of the Week

Megan Theiller, Fairfield 

Fr., RS/DS, 5-10, Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay-East Fishkill

Freshman Megan Theiller set a new career-high with 21 kills in the Stags’ win against Saint Peter’s with a .318 hitting percentage. Theiller had a breakout second set, tallying nine kills on just one error for a .727 hitting percentage. She also had 10 digs for her fifth career double-double. The freshman almost had another double double-double against previously unbeaten Rider, finishing with a balanced nine kills and nine digs. Theiller also had her best passing performance of her career, with a perfect 23-23 reception percentage.
