Four Women's Soccer Teams Clinch Berths to MAAC Championship

EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University, Monmouth University, Niagara University, and Rider University have clinched spots in the upcoming six-team 2014 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship.

Fairfield and Monmouth are currently tied for first place with 7-1 records, while the Hawks own the tiebreaker over the Stags for the first overall seed. Rider currently sits in third place with a 5-2-1 league mark, while Niagara is in fourth at 4-1-3. Siena College remains in fifth place with a 3-2-3 mark, while Canisius College holds the sixth and final playoff spot with a 4-5 record.  

Heading into the final week of the regular season, Siena, who can clinch a berth with a win, hosts Rider and Canisius, who can clinch a spot with a win or draw, hosts Manhattan at 1:00 pm on Saturday. At 2:00 pm, Fairfield visits Niagara. Quinnipiac hosts Saint Peter’s at 3:00 pm, and at 7:00 pm Marist hosts Monmouth.

On Wednesday, the final day of the regular season, Siena hosts Quinnipiac, Saint Peter’s hosts Manhattan, and Iona hosts Fairfield at 3:00 pm. At 4:00 pm Niagara hosts Marist and Monmouth at Rider closes out the regular season at 7:00 pm.

The first round of the 2014 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship begins on Saturday, November 1 with the third seed hosting the sixth seed and the fourth seed hosting the fifth seed. The championship will resume on Friday, November 7 and Sunday, November 9 with the overall number one seed as the host. The winner of the 2014 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship will receive the leagues automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.
