2014 MAAC Cross Country Championships Preview

EDISON, N.J. – The 2014 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will take place Friday, October 31st, at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, N.J. The championship races will showcase more than 350 competitors from the 11 MAAC institutions. Monmouth University serves as the host for this year’s championships.
The Iona College Men’s Cross Country team will be looking to take home their 24th consecutive MAAC title. In 2014, the Gaels have been climbing the charts by being ranked 5th nationally in the USTFCCCA coaches poll. Iona’s runners, led by Jake Byrne, Gilbert Kirui, Nick Lachman, and Chartt Miller, will each be looking to finish the conference championship race as the first overall runner.
Iona’s Women’s Cross Country team, led by Kate Avery and Rosie Clarke will be looking to take home their own championship title for a 10th consecutive season. The Gaels finished in first place last year in the MAAC, and for the last nine years, Iona has had the most outstanding runner in the championship race.
The Men's Cross Country teams will start the championship events at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Women's Cross Country teams running at 12:00 p.m.
The 2014 MAAC Cross Country Awards Show will be broadcast free of charge on MAAC.TV. The show will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Pollock Theatre on the campus of Monmouth University. MAAC.TV will also post highlights and interviews with cross country student-athletes and coaches following the races.
