MAAC Ranks High in NCAA Graduation Success Rate

EDISON, N.J. - The NCAA recently released its conference “Graduation Success Rate” (GSR) report which tracks conference graduation trends in the sports of basketball, football and baseball, over a four year time period (2004-2007).  The report reflects data from all 32 conferences except the Ivy League.

Overall, in all sports, the MAAC graduation rate for the 2007 cohort was 91%, placing the conference second amongst the 31 conferences included in the report. The highest overall GSR rate reported was 93%.  The MAAC consistently is ranked among the highest academic achievers in this report, in 2006 the GSR was 90% and in 2005 it was 86%.

“In maintaining this level of graduation for its student-athletes, the MAAC member schools demonstrate their combined commitment to meeting the league’s mission of ‘Excellence in Academics and Athletics’, notes Commissioner Richard Ensor.  “In consistently ranking in the top quartile of Division I conferences, the administrators, coaches and especially the student-athletes make us all justifiably proud and I congratulate them all on this success.”

Men’s basketball in the MAAC improved its graduation success rate to 89% in the 2007 cohort, tying the sport for second amongst the 31 conferences. The highest GSR reported in men’s basketball for the 2007 cohort is 92%.

Women’s basketball has an average graduation success rate of 96% for the cohort period (2004-2007) and is currently ranked eighth amongst the 31 conferences.  The highest GSR reported in women’s basketball for the 2007 cohort is 100%.

Baseball has an average graduation success rate of 88% for the cohort period and is currently ranked fifth amongst the 31 conference.
