McGuinness, Coffey, and Gray Claim Volleyball Weekly Honors

Player of the Week
Malia McGuinness, Manhattan
Sr., OH, 5-10, Kailua, Hawaii/Maryknoll School
McGuinness averaged 5.00 kills and 3.55 digs per set in three matches last week. In the Jaspers’ 3-0 home win over Saint Peter’s on Wednesday night, she smashed 10 kills and added 17 digs to complete a double-double. McGuinness followed up that performance by matching her career-high with 24 kills to go along with 12 digs at Canisius on Saturday. (She also had 24 kills in the home match against Canisius on Oct. 12.) She then pounded 21 kills on .327 hitting and also recorded 10 digs in the 3-1 win at Niagara on Sunday. In addition, McGuinness had two service aces in each of the three matches.
Libero of the Week
Camille Coffey, Fairfield
Sr., L, 5-11, Sierra Madre, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy
Senior Camille Coffey averaged five digs per set and was a perfect 51-51 in receiving serves during Fairfield’s 2-0 weekend. Coffey also tallied an assist per set with seven on the weekend. In the victory over Saint Peter’s Coffey recorded a match-high 21 digs and two service aces. Coffey also had a match-high 14 digs against Rider.
Rookie of the Week
Alexis Gray, Niagara
Fr., S, 5-8, San Clemente, California/Capistrano Valley
Alexis Gray had an effective impact offensively and defensively for the Purple Eagles, who won two of their three matches last week. She paced the offense by averaging a team-best 9.67 assists per set. She tied a career-high for assists in a three-set match with 35 in the sweep of rival Canisius on Wednesday. In the five-set win over Iona on Saturday, she tied career-highs in digs with 16 and in kills with five, as she collected her eighth double-double of the season with 44 assists and 16 digs. On Sunday, Gray notched her team-best ninth double-double with 37 assists and 11 digs.
