Seeds Set for 2014 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship

EDISON, N.J. – With the results of Wednesday’s matches, the seeds for the 2014 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship have now been determined.
Monmouth University (14-4, 9-1) is the regular season champion and the number one overall seed. The Hawks will receive a bye in the first round of the championship and will host the championship semifinal and final rounds on Friday, November 7 and Sunday, November 9. Also receiving a first round bye is the number two seed Fairfield University (14-4-1, 8-2).
Number three seed Niagara University (10-2-5, 6-1-3) will host “Battle of the Bridge” rival and number six seed Canisius College (6-13, 5-5) in the first round on Saturday, November 1 at 5:00 p.m. In their only meeting this season on October 1, Niagara defeated Canisius 1-0. Niagara scored the lone goal of the game in the 37th minute of play on a shot by Laura Ortiz. Ortiz scored off of a rebound from a shot by Eva Bachmann that hit the post.
Fourth seeded Rider University (10-5-2, 5-3-2) will host the fifth seed Siena College (7-6-6, 4-2-4) in the second first round contest at 7:00 p.m. on November 1. When the two teams met this season on October 25, they played to a 0-0 draw. Siena goalkeeper Taylor Booth registered 11 saves while Rider keeper Bethany-May Howard made seven saves as both players earned their fifth shutouts of the season.
Second seeded Fairfield will face the highest advancing seed from the opening round on Friday, November 7 at 4:00 p.m. in the first semifinal match. The second semifinal match will feature host Monmouth, who will face the lowest advancing seed from the first round at 7:00 p.m. The title match will take place on Sunday, November 9 at 1:00 p.m.
The winner of the 2014 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship will receive the leagues automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.
