EDISON, N.J. – The three-time defending MAAC Men’s Swimming & Diving champions Rider University has been named the preseason favorite to win a fourth consecutive title in 2015, according to a vote of the league’s nine head coaches. Rider earned a total of 80 points with eight of nine coaches’ first place votes.
In 2014, Rider’s men took first place in three relay events during the championship, along with a first place finish in the 1650 free. Trailing Marist College by 14 points after the first night, Rider came out and took a 533 - 493 lead at the end of the second day of competition. In 2014, the Broncs were led by senior Trevor Hiller who placed first on the one-meter dive with a score of 318.15. Hiller was named the 2014 MAAC Championship Men’s Most Outstanding Diver for the second consecutive year
Coming in second for the men’s teams is Marist College totaling 72 points from the coaches. Canisius College, receiving 60 points, placed third. Saint Peter’s University came in fourth with 48 points. Bryant University finished fifth in the poll with 41 points, while Iona College finished in sixth with 37 points, right ahead of Niagara University who finished seventh with 36 points. Fairfield University and Manhattan College round out this year’s poll; receiving 16 points and 15 points respectively.
Defending champion Marist College has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2015 MAAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship. Marist College has won five consecutive Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, and 15 overall. Marist’s women’s team received a total 79 points earning eight of nine coaches’ first place votes.
In 2014, the Red Foxes began the championship with a first place win in the 200 free relay. Marist College took first place in 1650 free, 1000 free, 200 free, and 100 fly. To finish out the 2014 MAAC championship, the Red Foxes won the final women’s event, placing first in the 400 free relay. Kimberly Tobias placed first in the three-meter dive with a score of 237.95. Tobias was named the 2014 MAAC Championship Women’s Most Outstanding Diver.
Coming in second for the women’s teams is Rider University with 72 points. Canisius College finished in third place with a total of 63 points. Saint Peter’s University came in fourth with 48 points. Iona College finished fifth with 42 points, narrowly beating out Siena College that finished sixth with 39 points. Fairfield University finished seventh with 31 points. Niagara finished eighth with 21 points, followed by Manhattan with 10 points.
