MAAC Sports
EDISON, N.J. – Siena College’s Bobbi Lin Kalama and Rider University’s Emma Aldaya have been honored by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) as Division I volleyball weekly award winners.
Kalama was honored as Libero of the Week after averaging 5.71 digs per set and posted a .974 reception percentage as the Saints posted key road victories at Fairfield and Quinnipiac. Kalama posted a match-high 21 digs in Siena’s four-set win at two-time defending MAAC Champion Fairfield Saturday, keying a stout Siena defense that out-dug the Stags 76-60 and was the clear difference in the match. She followed that effort up with one of her top performances of the season, registering a match-high 19 digs in a sweep of Quinnipiac and average of 6.3 digs per set. With the third set tied at 14-14, Kalama served four straight points, including two aces, helping Siena close out the match with a narrow 25-23 victory. Kalama also earned her second consecutive MAAC Libero of the Week honor.
Aldaya was honored as Rookie of the Week after she helped Rider to improve to 5-0 in the MAAC for the first time ever by averaging an even 6.00 digs per set as Rider defeated Manhattan 3-2 on October 4 and Iona 3-2 on October 5. Against the Jaspers, Aldaya registered 24 digs. Against Iona, she compiled 36 digs as Rider rallied from a 2-1 deficit, in which Aldaya had six digs in the fourth set and eight digs in the fifth and deciding set. Aldaya also had three service aces against Iona. For the season, Rider has won six matches in a row and the Broncs are the last remaining unbeaten team in conference play. This is the second ECAC honor of the season for Aldaya.
