Player of the Week
Haley Howell, Siena
So., S, 5-10, Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic
Howell averaged 12.6 assists and 1.1 blocks as Siena ran its win streak to four and took over sole possession of second place in the MAAC with a Western New York sweep of Canisius and Niagara. Howell also continued her exceptional service, tallying three aces and sparking several long runs, including a 4-0 spurt with the Saints trailing 21-20 in the fourth set at Canisius. Howell had 52 assists, 10 digs and six blocks in one of the top efforts of her career at Niagara Sunday. She added 49 assists, six digs and three blocks against the Griffs. Howell continues to get her teammates involved as 10 Saints posted seven kills or more over the weekend.
Libero of the Week
Camille Coffey, Fairfield
Sr., L, 5-11, Sierra Madre, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy
Senior Camille Coffey averaged 6.50 digs per set and recorded a new career-high in Fairfield’s two games this season. Coffey notched her career-best with a 32 dig performance against Manhattan which led all players. It marked the first time all season any Stag reached 30 plus digs in a match. Coffey started the week with a 20 dig outing against Iona in which she had a career performance in the second set when she tallied 13 digs in the frame, six more than any other player. Coffey also had four assists and an ace on the weekend.
Rookie of the Week
Alexis Gray, Niagara
Fr., S, 5-8, San Clemente, California/Capistrano Valley
Alexis Gray exceeded her season average in assists per game as the Purple Eagles split their final two home matches of the season. Gray, who leads all MAAC freshmen with 9.62 assist per game, averaged 11.43 assists in two matches. Gray spearheaded Niagara’s offense in its sweep of first place Marist on Saturday. She led the match with 31 assists and was one dig away from a double-double. On Sunday versus Siena, she recorded her team-best 12th double-double with a team-high 49 assists and added 10 digs; she also had a team-best six block assists. Gray’s 80 assists on the weekend moved her into eighth on the single-season assists list.
