Iona Opens MAAC Women's Basketball Season Versus Fordham

EDISON, N.J. – The women’s basketball 2014 season opens up this weekend for Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams.
Six teams start their 2014 campaigns on Friday, November 14 beginning with Iona College who faces off against cross town rival Fordham in Bronx, N.Y. at 11:30 am. At 12:00 pm the Rider University Broncs will tip off in the Preseason WNIT against Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J. Fairfield University opens their season in Kingston, R.I. at 2:00 pm against East Carolina in the URI Tip-Off Tournament. The Siena Saints will play away at Buffalo at 5:00 pm to begin their season.
At 7:00 pm, Canisius College visits western New York rival St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. Friday’s slate of games finishes with Manhattan College hosting Fairleigh Dickinson in Riverdale, N.Y. also at 7:00pm.
On Saturday, November 15, Niagara University will travel to Youngstown, Ohio to take on Youngstown State at 11:00 am. Co-preseason favorite Quinnipiac University hosts Army for their first game of the season in Hamden, Conn at 2:00 pm. The Monmouth Hawks will host Lehigh in West Long Branch, N.J. at 7:00 pm, while Saint Peter’s University travels to Stony Brook with tip-off set for 7:00 pm.
Sunday, November 16 features the Rider Broncs in their second game of the Preseason WNIT with their opponent and game time yet to be determined. 2014 MAAC champion, and co-preseason favorite Marist College tips off at 2:00 pm versus Delaware on the road. The Manhattan Jaspers take to the court for their second game of the weekend traveling to Holy Cross at 2:00 pm, while the weekend concludes with the Iona Gaels hosting Sacred Heart in New Rochelle, N.Y. also at 2:00 pm.
The 2014-15 season culminates with the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. Tickets can be purchased here
