Iona Selected for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship

EDISON, N.J. – The 2014 Iona Gaels Men’s Cross Country have been selected as an at-large team to advance to the 2014 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. This will be Iona’s 20th appearance in the NCAA Championship as the Gaels try to outdo last year’s finish of sixth place.
As a team this year, Iona has been ranked throughout the entire season starting with the preseason ranking No. 12 and rising all the way to No.5 spot in the latest ranking.
In the Northeast Regional, the Iona team finished in third place with 60 points, while Syracuse (45 points) and Providence (48 points) finished ahead of the Gaels. The top Iona runner in the race was Jake Byrne, who finished the race as the top runner with a time of 30:26.12. Gilbert Kirui also finished in the top 10 for the Gaels, crossing the finish line with a time of 30:38.50, good for tenth overall.
The 2014 NCAA Division I Cross Championships take place on November 22 at Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Indiana.
