Kate Avery, Iona, Cross Country, Distance Runner, Jr., Newton Aycliffe, England
2013 NCAA Cross Country All-American Kate Avery made her 2014 debut at the MAAC Championship and literally ran away with the individual crown, defending her 2013 championship, and winning the event by more than one minute and forty two seconds. Avery followed up the MAAC title with an NCAA Northeast Regional Championship this past Friday, topping her teammate Rosie Clarke by 23 seconds and becoming just the second Iona woman to win an individual regional title in program history. Avery led the Gaels to both team MAAC and regional championships. The regional crown was the first ever in school history and has led to the Gaels second-ever team appearance in the NCAA Championship.
