Player of the Week
Courtney Shaw, Marist
Jr., RS, 6-0, Centennial Colo./Grandview
Shaw led the Red Foxes in kills in Marist’s victories at Saint Peter’s and Rider this weekend, averaging 4.00 per set. She slammed 12 kills and hit .647 in a sweep of the Peacocks on Nov. 15. Three of her kills came on a five-point tear that gave the Red Foxes a 19-7 lead in the second set. She was one of three Red Foxes to post double-digit kills in a 3-1 win at Rider on Nov. 16, finishing with 16 to go along with three blocks. In the two victories, Shaw had 28 kills and eight digs alongside a .418 hitting percentage. Marist will enter the MAAC Championships as the no. 1 seed after posting a program record 23 wins, including 15 in the conference, in 2014.
Libero of the Week
Allie Yamashiro, Manhattan
So., L, 5-4, Kapolei, Hawaii/Kamehameha
Yamashiro had 21 digs, an average of 7.00 per set, in the Jaspers’ 3-0 Senior Day victory over Iona on Saturday afternoon. She also recorded two assists and a service ace in the win, Manhattan’s 20th of the season. It was also the Jaspers’ 13th conference victory, matching the program record. Yamashiro ended the regular season with 597 digs, one shy of tying the single-season program record, and she currently ranks second in the MAAC with 5.06 digs per set.
Rookie of the Week
Kelsey Ediger, Marist
Fr., LS, 5-9, Pearland, Texas/Glenda Dawson
Ediger played in all seven sets for Marist, as the Red Foxes shut out Saint Peter’s 3-0 on Nov. 15 and took down Rider 3-1 on Nov. 16 to conclude the 2014 regular season. She averaged 2.86 kills, 1.29 digs and 3.14 points per set in the two Marist victories. Against Saint Peter’s, Ediger registered eight kills and two digs. She slammed 12 kills in a comeback win against Rider, which gave the Red Foxes their second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season title. She hit .297 to go along with a career-high seven digs and three blocks in the regular season finale. Marist will enter the MAAC Championships as the no. 1 seed after posting a program record 23 wins, including 15 in the conference, in 2014.
