Field Hockey Seeding Set For MAAC Championship

EDISON, N.J. – With the results of Sunday’s matches, the seeds for the 2014 MAAC Field Hockey Championship have now been determined.
Monmouth University (11-7, 4-1) is the regular season champion and the number one overall seed. The Hawks will host the championship semifinal and final rounds on Friday, November 7 and Sunday, November 9.
The first semifinal game will feature two seeded Rider University (10-8, 3-2) and three seeded Quinnipiac University (8-10, 3-2) at 11:00am. In their only meeting this season on October 24, the Broncs defeated the Bobcats 2-1. Quinnipiac’s Danielle Allan scored to give her team a 1-0 lead in the second half. Rider’s Dezarae Fillmyer scored to knot the game 1-1, before heading into overtime. In the extra period, the Broncs’ Melyssa Alonso scored on a rebound for the victory.
Monmouth will face fourth seeded Sacred Heart University (9-8, 3-2) in the second semifinal game at 1:30pm. When the two teams met this season on October 19, they played to a 2-0 Monmouth win. Monmouth freshman Meg Donahue scored both goals for the Hawks on assists from Trish O’ Dwyer while goalkeeper Christen Piersanti kept the Pioneers off the board.
The winners of the two semifinal games will move on to face off in the MAAC championship game on Sunday. The winner of the 2014 MAAC Field Hockey Championship will receive the leagues automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Field Hockey Championship.
