Siena's Sonja Vasovic Named AVSR Global National Player of the Week

Sophomore Sonja Vasovic (Zemun, Serbia) was named the American Volleyball Scouting Report (AVCR) Global National Player of the Week Monday after helping lead Siena to its ninth MAAC Championship this past weekend. Vasovic averaged 3.3 kills per set at .368 efficiency as the Saints earned their fifth automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The AVCA recognizes one foreign student athlete across all divisions of the NCAA as its National Player of the Week.
Vasovic played perhaps the best match of her career in the Saints’ thrilling five-set Championship victory over Marist on Saturday. She finished with 15 kills and four blocks, committing just two errors in 31 attacks (.419). Vasovic posted double-figure kills in all three of Siena’s MAAC Tournament matches, tallying 11 in a quarterfinal sweep of Canisius, and 10 in the semifinal sweep of Manhattan.
Vasovic also averaged 0.9 blocks per set and tallied three services aces on the weekend.
The Towson transfer played in 32 of 33 matches for Siena this season and was a huge force behind the team’s late season run, securing the starting role on the right side.
Vasovic and the Saints enter the NCAA Tournament on a nine-match win streak. They find out when and where they will play next Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU when the 64-team field is announced on the NCAA’s Selection Show.
