Fairfield, Quinnipiac and Rider Clinch Berths to MAAC Championship

EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University, Quinnipiac University, and Rider University, have clinched spots in the upcoming six-team 2014 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship with seeding still yet to be determined.

Quinnipiac University (9-4-4, 6-0-3) is the regular season champion and the number one overall seed. The Bobcats, who have been undefeated in conference play, will host the championship semifinal and final rounds on Friday, November 14 and Sunday, November 16.

Rider sits in second place with a 6-4 league mark, while Fairfield and Iona are currently tied for third place with 4-1-4 and 5-3-1 records respectively. The Monmouth Hawks and Siena Saints are tied for fifth place with 3-1-5 and 4-3-2 records respectively. Canisius and Marist also have an opportunity to earn a spot in the championship.

On Wednesday, the final day of the regular season, Saint Peter’s hosts Monmouth and Siena hosts Marist at 2:00 pm. Monmouth and Siena can secure spots in the championship with a win. At 7:00 pm Manhattan hosts Iona, Fairfield hosts Quinnipiac and Niagara hosts Canisius. Iona can also secure a spot with a win on Wednesday.

The first round of the 2014 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship begins on Saturday, November 8 with the third seed hosting the sixth seed and the fourth seed hosting the fifth seed. Quinnipiac will host the championship that will resume on Friday, November 14 with game times of 10:00am and 1:00pm. The championship match will be played Sunday, November 16 at 12:00pm. The winner of the 2014 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship will receive the leagues automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship.
