Women's Soccer Final Wilson Weekly Awards of the Season Announced

Wilson Offensive Player of the Week

Karolyn Collins, Fairfield  

Jr., B, 6-0, Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk

Karolyn Collins had an all-around good display for the Stags in Fairfield’s lone match of the week. The junior tallied her first goal of the season and dished out the game-winning assist against the Gaels in a 3-0 victory.  For Collins, it was her seventh assist of the season which was tops of the conference. Collins also helped guide a backline that did not allow a goal in the match.

Wilson Defensive Player of the Week

Kathleen Early, Fairfield

Sr., GK, 5-8, Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial

Kathleen Early recorded a shutout in the only Fairfield match this week in a 3-0 victory over Iona. Early stopped five shots in her 90 minutes of work for her third-straight shutout against the Gaels and seventh shutout of the season. With the win, Early and the Stags recorded their 250th victory in program history.

Wilson Rookie of the Week

Ellie Smith, Rider 

Fr., M/F, 5-3, Norwich, England/Norwich City

Freshman Ellie Smith scored both goals for the Rider Broncs in a 2-1 victory over Siena in the women’s soccer championship first round. Smith moved from midfield to forward due to injuries on the team and scored the first goal of the game in the 30th minute when she took a cross pass and headed the ball into the net to give Rider a 1-0 lead. She scored the game-winning goal with just 1:26 left to play to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Broncs to the semifinal round.
