Seeds Set for 2014 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship

EDISON, N.J. – With the results of Wednesday’s matches, the seeds for the 2014 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship have now been determined.
Quinnipiac University (10-4-4, 7-0-3) is the regular season champion and the number one overall seed. The Bobcats will receive a bye in the first round of the championship and will host the championship semifinal and final rounds on Friday, November 14 and Sunday, November 16. Also receiving a first round bye is the number two seed Iona College (9-6-3, 6-3-1).
Number three seed Rider University (9-6-2, 6-4) will host number six seed Fairfield University (7-4-6, 4-2-4) in the first round on Saturday, November 8. In their only meeting this season on October 1, Rider defeated Fairfield 3-0. Rider’s goals were scored by freshman Jose Aguinaga, sophomore Adrien Huss and sophomore Christian Flath. Broncs’ goalkeeper David Pastuna made two saves in the contest.
Fourth seeded Monmouth University (8-3-6, 4-1-5) will host the fifth seed Siena College (10-7-2, 5-3-2) in another first round contest also on November 8. When the two teams met earlier this week on November 1, they played to a 1-1 draw. Siena’s Alex Portela and Monmouth’s Brandon McCarthy scored the only goals of the match. Hawks’ goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky registered three saves while Saints’ keeper Josh Weiss made four saves in the contest.
Second seeded Iona College will face the highest advancing seed from the opening round on Friday, November 14 in a semifinal match. The other semifinal match will feature host Quinnipiac, who will face the lowest advancing seed from the first round. The title match will take place on Sunday, November 16.
The winner of the 2014 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship will receive the leagues automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship.
