EDISON, N.J. – The semifinal games of the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship are set for Friday, November 14 on the campus of Quinnipiac University. As top seed heading into the weekend, the Bobcats will host Fairfield, Iona and Monmouth with the games being played at 10am and 1pm.

Last year’s defending champion Quinnipiac earned the top-seed in the championship after recording a conference record of 7-0-3. The Bobcats are led by 2013 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year Borja Angoitia and senior forward Machel Baker.

Coming in second in the league, the Iona Gaels will look to avenge last year’s semifinal loss. The Gaels are averaging 1.53 goals per game and are led by senior Ignacio Maganto. Iona has never won a MAAC men’s soccer championship.

Monmouth is entering the semifinal match-up after a 3-0 win against the Siena Saints in the opening round of the new six-team championship. Monmouth’s defense is top of the league as the Hawks have held their opponents to a mere 0.41 goals per game.

Fairfield earned the fourth seed in the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship. The Stags played the third seeded Rider in the opening round of the championship and edged out a win, defeating the Broncs with a 1-0 score. Matt Turner is tied for the league lead in shutouts with 11, recording an .886 percentage as keeper.

The 2014 MAAC Championship semifinals start Friday, November 14 with Monmouth facing Iona at 10:00 a.m. followed by a meeting of Fairfield and Quinnipiac at 1:00 p.m.

The winners of each game will face-off in the championship final on Sunday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m. The winner will earn the MAAC’s automatic qualifier to the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
