Walker, Pinheiro, Pocesta, and Moffatt Capture Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – Jalen Walker from Monmouth University is the MAAC Men’s Track Performer of the Week. The MAAC Women’s Track Performer of the Week is Nkeka Pinheiro from Saint Peter’s University. Blerim Pocesta from Manhattan College is the MAAC Men’s Field Performer of the Week, while Alexandra Moffatt from Saint Peter’s University earned the award on the women’s side.
Senior Jalen Walker from Monmouth University is the MAAC Men’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week. Walker won the 60-meter hurdles at Sunday’s MAC Classic hosted by Monmouth University. He defeated the 8-man field with a time of 8.17 seconds, edging the second place finisher, teammate Geordan Ferguson, by .01 seconds. Walker improved on his third place finish and overall time in the 60-meter hurdles at last week’s Princeton Invitational by .08 seconds.
The MAAC Women’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week is Freshman Nkeka Pinheiro from Saint Peter’s University. At the Brother Jasper Invitational, Pinheiro finished in first place in the 200-meter dash. Her time of 26.34 seconds cleared the field of 26 runners by .27 seconds. She did this in her collegiate debut in the event.
Junior Blerim Pocesta from Manhattan College is the MAAC Men’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week. Pocesta won the Brother Jasper Invitational weight throw with a toss of 18.78 meters (61 feet, 7 ½ inches), clearing the 15-man field by .34 meters. His win came in dramatic fashion as he launched the winning toss on his final attempt of the competition, consequently thrusting him into 20th place on this year’s NCAA overall leaderboard. Pocesta also came in second place in the shot put with a throw of 14.91 meters (48 feet, 11 inches).
The MAAC Women’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week is Sophomore Alexandra Moffatt from Saint Peter’s University. In the Brother Jasper Invitational, Moffatt took home second place in the pole vault, clearing the bar with a 3.60-meter vault. The vault broke the old Saint Peter’s program record by one foot.
The 2015 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on February 21st at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York, N.Y.
