Rider's Valot & Four MAAC Men's Soccer Players Named ECAC All-Stars

EDISON, N.J. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2014 Division I Men’s Soccer All-Star teams.
Headlining the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selections to the ECAC All-Star team is ECAC Division I Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Year Florian Valot of Rider University. The MAAC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-MAAC selection, scored seven goals and registered four assists for the Broncs in his first season of college soccer in the United States. He also earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors on September 22nd after scoring two goals in a 5-0 Rider victory over St. Bonaventure. Valot ranked fifth in scoring in the conference in 2014 and tied for sixth in the conference in assists, while totaling 18 points. Valot was also selected to the All-MAAC First Team and All-Rookie Team this season.
The MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, Iona College’s Ignacio Maganto, was named to the ECAC All-Star First Team. Maganto was the MAAC leader in points in 2014, tallying 27 points on 11 goals and five assists. His 11 goals also led the MAAC, while his five assists ranked fourth. He ranks 15th overall in the nation in points, and his 11 goals rank him 17th in the nation. His 1.5 points per game average is 11th overall in the country, and first in the MAAC. Maganto was a unanimous All-MAAC First Team selection and was named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team. Maganto has also been invited to the 2015 Major League Soccer combine.
Christian Flath of Rider University was also selected to the ECAC All-Star First Team. The midfielder ranked second in the MAAC in points with 22 and third in goals with 9 in 2014. Flath was the MAAC Rookie of the Year in 2013 and was an All-MAAC First Team selection in 2014.
The two time MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, senior Matt Jeffery from Monmouth University was selected to the ECAC All-Star Second Team after being named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team and All-MAAC First Team as a unanimous selection. Jeffery is also listed as a top 25 prospect for the MLS Superdraft by College Soccer News. Jeffery led a defense that tied for the league lead in shutouts with 11 and allowed only seven goals during the year.
Quinnipiac University’s senior goalkeeper Borja Angoitia was selected to the ECAC All-Star Second Team. The 2013 & 2014 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year, ranked third in the league in goals against average with a mark of 0.73 and has also made 73 saves over the season to a mark of 4.29 saves per game. He finished third in the MAAC with a .849 save percentage and also recorded the third most shutouts in the league with eight on the season while being named an All-MAAC First Team selection. Angoitia was named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region Third Team, and leaves Hamden ranking first all-time in career shutouts with 24 and career wins with 32 at Quinnipiac.
