Pinheiro, Walker, Pocesta, and Lascelles Receive ECAC Honors

EDISON, N.J. – Freshman Nkeka Pinheiro from Saint Peter’s University, Senior Jalen Walker from Monmouth University, Junior Blerim Pocesta from Manhattan College, and Freshman Jermaine Lascelles from Saint Peter’s University receive Corvias ECAC Indoor Track and Field honors in the Metro/Upstate region.

Nkeka Pinheiro was named the Division I Athlete of the Week in the Metro/Upstate region by the ECAC. At the Brother Jasper Invitational, she finished in first place in the 200-meter dash. Her time of 26.34 seconds cleared the field of 26 runners by .27 seconds. Pinheiro did this in her collegiate debut in the event.

The ECAC named Jalen Walker the Division I Co-Athlete of the Week in the Metro/Upstate region. He won the 60-meter hurdles at Sunday’s MAC Classic hosted by Monmouth University. Walker defeated the 8-man field with a time of 8.17 seconds, edging the second place finisher, teammate Geordan Ferguson, by .01 seconds. Walker improved on his third place finish and overall time in the 60-meter hurdles at last week’s Princeton Invitational by .08 seconds.

Blerim Pocesta was named the Division I Co-Athlete of the Week in the Metro/Upstate region by the ECAC. He won the Brother Jasper Invitational weight throw with a toss of 18.78 meters (61 feet, 7 ½ inches), clearing the 15-man field by .34 meters. Pocesta’s win came in dramatic fashion as he launched the winning toss on his final attempt of the competition, consequently thrusting him into 20th place on this year’s NCAA overall leaderboard. He also came in second place in the shot put with a throw of 14.91 meters (48 feet, 11 inches).

The ECAC named Jermaine Lascelles the Division I Rookie of the Week in the Metro/Upstate region. At the Brother Jasper Invitational, he won the high jump with a 2.04-meter jump, clearing the 10-man field by .05 meters. The following day at the MAC Classic, Lascelles came in third place in the Men’s 500-meter dash with a time of 1:06.13.
