Women's Basketball Conference Schedule to Begin Tonight

EDISON, N.J. – The 2014-15 women’s basketball conference schedule open’s tonight with Siena hosting Fairfield at 7pm to begin the first week of league action.
The only game of the night features the Saints, who have begun the season with a 3-1 record, will host the Stags who stand at 1-5, in Loudonville, N.Y. to begin league play at 7:00p.m. The Saint’s got off to a 3-0 start on the season, the best start for the program in 14 years, before falling to an undefeated Akron team. Siena currently averages 72 points scored per game. Fairfield, who defeated Butler 81-77 during their first home court game of the season, currently is shooting .380 from beyond the arc.
On Friday, five games are scheduled beginning with the 4:00pm tip-off between host Quinnipiac and Siena. The Bobcats who sit at 4-2 currently are 2-0 in games at home this season. Quinnipiac defeated Holy Cross and Alabama in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Challenge last week. The next game begins at 6:00pm with Niagara hosting Saint Peter’s. Niagara who started the season 0-3, have won their last two games and have been tough on upfront averaging 44 rebounds per game. Saint Peter’s who are 0-4 are strong on defense allowing just 62 points per game to opposing teams. At 7:00pm 2-4 Rider will host 2-4 Iona. The Broncs have won their last two games coming off of an 0-4 start. The Gaels who started the year with a win on the road versus Fordham got their next win in their last game versus Stony Brook at home, a 73-62 decision. Canisius will host Manhattan also at 7:00pm. The Griffs stand at 1-3 winning their last game on the road versus Saint Francis (Pa.) coming back from an 18 point deficit, the biggest comeback in program history. Manhattan sits at 1-4 with their lone win coming against Holy Cross on the road, a 66-60 decision with the Jaspers scoring 42 points in the second half. Also at 7:00pm Marist will host Monmouth at the McCann Arena in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Marist, who was atop the MAAC preseason poll sits at 1-5, with their 68-65 win coming against Utah State during the BTI Classic in Waco, Texas. Monmouth who stands at 3-2 followed up a home loss to open the year with three consecutive wins including a 77-66 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on November 25.
Teams will return to the court on Sunday, which features a full slate of conference action, with five contests scheduled to tip-off. First at 1:00p.m., Niagara will host Manhattan at the Gallagher Center. At 2:00pm Rider will travel to McCann Arena to take on Marist. Also at 2:00pm Canisius will host Saint Peter’s at the Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Iona will travel to West Long Branch, N.J. to take on Monmouth at 2:00pm at the MAC. Connecticut rivals Quinnipiac and Fairfield will meet at Alumni Hall in Fairfield, Conn. at 2:00p.m. for their first matchup of the year.
