2014-2015 MAAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track Coaches Preseason Poll

EDISON, N.J. – Defending conference champion Monmouth University has been named the preseason favorite to repeat as Men's Indoor Track and Field champions according to a vote of the league's 7 head coaches. Monmouth earned a total of 46 points with five of seven coaches’ first place votes.
In 2014, Monmouth's men captured their first MAAC Indoor Track and Field trophy after a strong performance in both the track and the field events. The Hawks won both the 60 meter dash and the 800 meter run behind sophomore Eric Kahana (6.94 seconds) and freshman Dylan Capwell (1:50.52). The men also triumphed in the shot put and weight throw behind senior Errol Jeffrey's 65 feet 6 inches and 59 feet 5 ¾ respectively.
Coming in second for the men’s teams is Manhattan College totaling 41 points from the coaches. Iona College and Rider University finished tied for third with 32 points. Saint Peter's finished fifth in the poll with 24 points, while Canisius College finished in sixth with 12 points, right ahead of Marist College who finished seventh with 9 points.
Defending conference champion Monmouth University has also been selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2015 MAAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship according to a vote of the league's 8 head coaches. Monmouth received a total of 63 points with 8 out of the 9 coaches' first place votes. Last year, the Hawks claimed their first MAAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship as a member of the MAAC.
At the 2014 Championship, Monmouth won an astonishing five track and four field events, including the 60 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 800 meter run, 60 meter hurdles, 4 x 400 meter relay, pole vault, long jump, shot put, and weight throw. Led by senior Mariah Toussaint's two MAAC records in the 200 meter (24.3 seconds) and long jump (6.18 meters), the Hawks never wavered in their pursuit of the championship. In addition to Toussaint, senior Tilah Young and junior Lauren McDonald also set new MAAC records in the pole vault (3.80 meters) and weight throw (18.22 meters) respectively.
Coming in second for the women’s teams is Rider University with 48 points, narrowly edging third place Manhattan College who finished with a total of 48 points. Saint Peter’s University came in fourth with 37 points. Iona College finished fifth with 34 points. Quinnipiac University finished sixth with 31 points. Marist College finished seventh with 17 points. Canisius College rounded out the poll in eighth with 9 points.
