EDISON, N.J. - Whitney Swab, Assistant Commissioner for New Media, has announced her departure from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference staff. Swab will join the athletics department at UMass Lowell as Assistant Director of Athletic Development.

“Congratulations to Whitney Swab on her new position,” notes MAAC Commissioner, Richard J. Ensor.  “Whitney has been a great resource the last six years at the MAAC, particularly as she undertook the responsibilities associated with the revamped New Media operations the past few years, including the launch of the MAAC.TV Network and the coordination of the MAAC ESPN3 School Productions program.  Her efforts have been much appreciated and she will be missed.”

A member of the MAAC staff since 2008, Swab began as the Director of Marketing before transitioning to Director of New Media/Broadcast and Marketing in June, 2011. In November of 2012 she was named the Interim Assistant Commissioner for External Relations, and later assumed the role of Assistant Commissioner for New Media in June of 2014.

Throughout her various roles, Swab has worked to enhance MAAC brand awareness through the conference’s online video portal, MAAC.TV, as well as through MAACSports.com and at championships and events. She was also instrumental in the further development of social media, communications and marketing strategies, and worked with administrators at member institutions to execute marketing initiatives.

Swab will be replaced by Lily Rodriguez as Interim Assistant Commissioner for New Media. In this role, Rodriguez will be responsible for the New Media department, MAAC.TV and production elements. Rodriguez was formerly the Director of Championships and Special Events at the conference.

“Lily Rodriguez has been involved in various media relations and event operations during her career and I much appreciate her stepping up to assume the responsibilities of the MAAC’s New Media Team,” said Ensor.  “I believe she will provide the leadership needed for this important function as the league begins its ESPN Broadcast Package for the 2014-15 basketball season and the marketing and related activities associated with the 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York, this coming March.”

Rodriguez joined the league staff this past July. Prior to arriving at the MAAC, she served as the Athletic Communications Assistant at Rutgers University, where she was the primary media contact for women's volleyball, women's swimming and diving, women's lacrosse and women's tennis.

No stranger to the MAAC, Rodriguez was the Athletic Communications Assistant at Saint Peter's University from 2011-2013.

A native of Linden, New Jersey, Rodriguez is a 2011 summa cum laude graduate of St. Francis College, where she earned her degree in management with a concentration in marketing. During her time at St. Francis Brooklyn, Rodriguez was a captain and four-year starter at the libero position and is the Terriers all-time leader with 1,754 digs.

Rodriguez has continued to remain involved with the sport of volleyball, coaching at the high school and club level. She also served as the assistant coach at Saint Peter’s University.

Rodriguez received a Masters of Business Administration from Saint Peter's in 2013.
