MAAC-ESPN TV Package Continues Friday

EDISON, N.J. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s television package with ESPN continues on Friday, Feb. 14, with a doubleheader at Marist, and a single game featuring one of the MAAC’s top rivalries at Niagara.

On Feb. 14, the Marist women’s team will host Quinnipiac in an ESPNU game at 5 p.m. The second half of the doubleheader features the Siena men’s team at Marist at 8 in an ESPN3 broadcast. At 9 p.m.. on Feb. 14, the Canisius men’s team will play at rival Niagara on ESPNU at 9 p.m.

The Quinnipiac women’s team will face Marist in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader, on ESPNU at 5 p.m.  Marist won the first meeting of the two teams in December, taking a 69-63 decision. Both teams have their eyes set on a return to the NCAA Tournament. Marist earned the MAAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tourney for the ninth time in 10 years in 2013, while Quinnipiac won the NEC’s championship and automatic bid en route to a 30-3 season.

Friday’s second half of the DH will feature the Siena men at Marist to be broadcast on ESPN3. Siena won the first meeting of the teams this season, 67-58, at home and holds a 49-24 edge in the all-time series. This game will include a matchup of two of the top freshmen guards in the MAAC, Khallid Hart of Marist and Marquis Wright of Siena.

The MAAC’s Friday night game on ESPNU will feature one of the long-standing rivalries in college basketball when Canisius plays at Niagara at 9 p.m. The Golden Griffins and the Purple Eagles have met 173 times through the years, with Niagara holding a 96-77 edge in the series. However, Canisius has won the last two meetings, including the first one this season. Two of the top guards in the MAAC will lead their teams, Canisius’ Billy Baron and Niagara’s Antoine Mason.  Mason entered the week as the MAAC’s leading scorer, at 26.3 ppg, while Baron is second with a 23.6 average. 

MAAC basketball featured a doubleheader broadcast on ESPN3 on Thursday, Feb. 13, when the Fairfield women’s team edged Rider, 52-50 on Brittany Obi-Tabot’s traditional three-point play in the final seconds. In the second half of the twinbill, Ike Azotam scored 23 points to lead Quinnipiac past Fairfield, 80-72.
