Six MAAC Games To Be Broadcast On ESPN Platforms

EDISON, N.J. – This week’s MAAC/ESPN television package will feature two games on ESPN platforms on each of Thursday thru Saturday nights, Feb 20-22. Thursday’s matchups include an ESPN3 doubleheader from Saint Peter’s University, while on Friday, there will be an ESPN3 game from Siena College and an ESPNU game from Rider University on Friday, Feb. 21. On Saturday, Monmouth University will host an ESPN3 doubleheader.

On Thursday night, the Saint Peter’s women’s team will host Canisius at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Marist at Saint Peter’s men’s game at 8:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN3. On Friday night, Manhattan, currently in a three-way tie for second place, will play at Siena in a 7:00 p.m. game on ESPN3, and first-place Iona will visit fifth place Rider at 8:00 p.m. on ESPNU. On Saturday, the Peacocks men’s team will play at Monmouth in an ESPN3 game set to begin at 7 p.m.

The Saint Peter’s women’s team will be looking to avenge a 48-47 loss at Canisius in January. Kayla Hoohuli scored 15 and Jen Lennox had 14 for the Golden Griffs, while Aziza May scored 12 for Peacocks in the first meeting. Canisius is currently 10-15 overall and 6-10 in the MAAC, while Saint Peter’s, under first-year head coach Pat Coyle, is 3-22 overall and 2-14 in league play.

The second half of Thursday’s ESPN3 doubleheader features the Saint Peter’s men’s team hosting Marist.. The Red Foxes (11-15 overall) come into the game having won five of their last six games, and are in sixth place in MAAC play with an 8-8 record. Saint Peter’s is 9-16 overall, and 5-11 in conference play. Canisius won the first game between the two teams as Jordan Heath scored 28 points in an 82-67 decision. Marvin Dominique had 25 points and 10 rebounds in a losing cause.

Friday’s ESPNU game will feature Iona, in first place in the MAAC with a 14-2 record, at Rider. The Broncs are currently in fifth place in the MAAC with a 9-7 record. This is the first meeting of the two teams this season. The high scoring Gaels (17-8 overall), who average 83.8 points per game and have won nine consecutive games, are led by guards Sean Armand and A.J. English, who are both averaging 17.6 points per game. Seniors Anthony Myles (16.7) and Daniel Stewart (15.4) pace the Broncs (13-12 overall).

Manhattan, currently riding a five-game win streak, will play at Siena on Friday in an ESPN3 contest. The Jaspers, who enter the week19-6 overall and 12-4 and in a tie for second in the MAAC, will face Monmouth on Wednesday before their matchup with Siena. The Jaspers are led by swingman George Beamon, who averages 19.5 points per game, and inside force Rhamel Brown, one of the nation’s top shot-blockers with 3.6 per outing. The Saints (11-16, 7-9) are a young team led by junior Rob Poole  (15.3) and freshman point guard Marquis Wright, who leads the league in assists with 5.6 per game.  

Saturday’s ESPN3 doubleheader will tipoff at 4 p.m. when the Niagara women’s team will visit Monmouth. The Purple Eagles won the first meeting of the two teams, 48-45, as they overcame a 14-point first half deficit for the win. Victoria Rampado led Niagara with 23 points, while Danica Dragicevic led Monmouth 10 points and eight rebounds. Niagara, currently 8-17 overall and 6-10 in conference play, will face Iona on Feb. 20 before continuing on to Monmouth. Monmouth (6-21, 5-11) will face Rider on Feb. 19 before the weekend encounter with Niagara.

The second game of the doubleheader will feature not only a pair of New Jersey rivals but also two of the younger teams in the MAAC, Saint Peter’s at Monmouth. Saint Peter’s won the first meeting of the two teams, 61-50, as Marvin Dominique scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Andrew Nicholas scored 16 points to pace the Hawks. Monmouth is currently 10-17 overall and 4-12 in league play.
