Edison, N.J. – Brad Tracy, MAAC Coordinator of Officials since 1990, is named to the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Honor Roll by the MAAC Council of Presidents for his service and dedication to MAAC referees, coaches, student-athletes and member institutions. Tracy headlines a 23-member class that will be honored Saturday, March 8 at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Tracy has served as the MAAC Coordinator of Men’s Basketball Officials for the past 24 years.  Under Tracy's guidance, the MAAC has enjoyed the services of many renowned officials including several who officiated in the NCAA Final Four. In his role he recruited, assigned and mentored the league’s referee staff of approximately 65 basketball officials. Additionally he acted as the MAAC Women’s Basketball Coordinator of Officials from 1991-2001.

“Brad Tracy’s ability to find and attract the top college basketball officials to work in the MAAC has been a tremendous asset to not only the MAAC, but all of college basketball,” notes MAAC Commissioner Richard J. Ensor. “There are many high-level Division I basketball officials that got their first Division I assignment from Brad. Like many coaches who started out in our league before moving on to higher profile jobs, many young officials found the MAAC to be a prime destination to gain valuable experience and move up the ranks of college basketball officiating.”

Tracy has been active on the national college basketball scene where he served as secretary to the Collegiate Commissioners Association Officials Bureau and as a referee evaluator for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship for several years.

“Brad’s excellent leadership with the MAAC basketball officials enabled him to excel as Coordinator of Officials,” remarked Ken Taylor, MAAC Associate Commissioner for Men’s Basketball.  “Beyond that, he is a great mentor and colleague to countless numbers of officials, administrators and coaches with the MAAC.”

Tracy has enjoyed numerous accolades throughout his storied career in basketball officiating. They include the 2000 College Basketball Officials Association Russ Beiswanger and John P. Nucatola Honorary Lifetime Membership Awards, the National Invitation Tournament Service Award to College Basketball in 2001, and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Distinguished Service Award in 2003.

For his contributions to officiating in high school basketball, the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials presented Tracy the prestigious Pat Malan Award in 1988. The group would add to Tracy’s resume Honorary Lifetime Membership in 1998.

In 1996, Tracy was inducted into the Basketball Oldtimers of America Hall of Fame with notable basketball coaches Brendan Malone and Pete Gillen. In 1997, the Catholic High School Athletic Association called Tracy’s name to join its Hall of Fame, whose members include legendary baseball player and manager Joe Torre and basketball Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Lou Carnesecca.

Prior to joining the MAAC, Tracy was an active high school and college basketball official for over 25 years, 10 of them being at the NCAA Division I level. He refereed post-season games in both the NIT and NCAA Tournaments. Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Chris Mullin are just two former players that Tracy has officiated on the court.  Notable coaches he presided over in games for include Digger Phelps, Pete Gillen, Rollie Massimino, P. J. Carlesimo, Mike Krzyzewski and Jim Boeheim.

Outside of basketball, Tracy served 34 years with the New York City Fire Department as a Fire Fighter before retiring in 1989. He is the proud father of 5 children and 24 grandchildren.  He currently resides in Sag Harbor, NY with his wife Ava.

The MAAC Honor Roll is part of the 600 square foot “MAAC Experience” display at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.  Each year one honoree selected by the MAAC Council of Presidents joins one male and one female honoree from each of the 11 MAAC institutions. The 23-member 2014 induction class will be enshrined to the MAAC Honor Roll on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Court of Dreams. The Honorees’ names will be added to the “MAAC Experience” exhibit.  Additionally, each honoree will be profiled in the 2014 MAAC Basketball Championships game program and will also be featured in a video display at The MAAC Experience available for viewing by the general public. Lastly, the honorees will also be recognized at halftime of the 9:00p.m. MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship quarterfinal on Saturday, March 8.
