Edison, N.J. – University of Detroit Mercy senior midfielder Troy Dennis and Siena College senior attackman Colin Clive were two of the twenty NCAA Division I lacrosse student-athletes selected for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award announced Wednesday.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Dennis is a four-year member of the Titan lacrosse team who helped Detroit capture its first-ever MAAC Championship and NCAA Championship appearance in 2013 as well as a runner-up MAAC Championship effort in 2011. He is a two-year member of the MAAC Academic Honor Roll and the MAAC All-Academic Team and a three-time recipient of the University of Detroit Mercy Honor roll. Dennis has been a University of Detroit Mercy Presidential Ambassador since 2013 and has been on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) for three years.

Just this past fall, Dennis was featured on the cover of Inside Lacrosse Magazine for his dedication in strength and conditioning. Some of his community involvement has been with Baldwin's (NY) Summer Program Camp as a supervisor in 2012 and 2013, a Detroit Arts Beats and Eats Festival Volunteer in 2013 and 2014, a Larry Bosciano Children Lacrosse Clinic Volunteer since 2006 and a Campus Kitchens Volunteer in 2011 and 2012.

Clive has excelled in all four criteria outlined in the Senior CLASS Award. A Finance major, Clive has completed two noteworthy internships, most recently at Arch Capital. Men’s lacrosse’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee representative, Clive coordinated the Miles for Matt Foundation and has been an active participant in Siena Athletics’ BlueShield of Northeastern New York Saints in the Community program.

A Preseason All-MAAC selection, Clive was named a First Team All-MAAC selection last year and the MAAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player as a freshman in 2010. The Saints’ active leading scorer with 112 career points, Clive also participated in the 2012 European Lacrosse Championships, scoring 17 goals including a hat trick in the championship game in leading Team England to a perfect 8-0 record and the title.

The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Lacrosse Championships in Baltimore May 24-26.
